Earth Day 2025
April 22, 2025 marks the 55th year of Earth Day, a reminder to all of us about the importance of protecting our planet’s environment. The American Solidarity Party recognizes that we have a responsibility to care for Earth and its environment, rather than selfishly exploiting resources for material gain at the expense of both the health of other human beings and the planet itself.
Indeed, one of the things that drew me to the American Solidarity Party was the consistency of its pro-life message across all platforms, something noticeably absent from the platforms of the duopoly in the United States, and this includes our emphasis on promoting a healthy environment. While the Republican Party is correctly pro-life in terms of being against abortion, it’s recklessly irresponsible in not caring for the quality of life beyond birth, and this extends not only in its wrongful rejection of social safety nets, but also in the so-called “conservative” party’s curious lack of concern for “conserving” our natural resources and maintaining a clean and safe environment for life to survive and thrive. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is correct in addressing the importance of caring for the environment, but its anti-life “population control” measures are not in keeping with a consistent pro-life stance across all platforms. It is only the American Solidarity Party that promotes life from womb to tomb, including both people and planet, holistically approaching healthy living across every aspect of life.
Another factor differentiating our approach is how we seek to implement environmental policy. Our “bottom-up” approach, in contrast to the Democratic Party’s “top-down” approach, starts with improving the environment at the local level rather than just the federal level. As the Environment plank of The American Solidarity Party platform states in its first bullet point, “We are committed to building an economy using models of production and distribution that are local, responsible, and sustainable. We call for the repeal of subsidies that encourage urban sprawl and discourage local farming and production, and we encourage local media outlets and chambers of commerce to promote buying locally.” It is regrettable that the Democratic Party talks a big game about the environment at only the federal level while not practically addressing the pollution of the large cities where they have so much influence politically. In fact, the five dirtiest cities in the United States, as measured by LawnStarter, are all run by mayors from the Democratic Party.
As for the Republican Party, despite the incontrovertible evidence of most greenhouse gas emissions coming from burning fossil fuels, Republicans continue to support expanding these energy sources, per data at Pew Research.
With these parties in charge, it’s no surprise that the United States ranks just 34th in the 2024 Environmental Performance Index among the Earth’s countries, and we are second in greenhouse gas emissions in particular due to our heavy reliance on fossil fuels. (It is also notable that Germany, by contrast, is one of the three highest-ranking countries, a country where Christian Democracy has actually been allowed to have considerable political influence!)
I look at these statistics as one of many reasons I could not, in good conscience, support either major party anymore as a resident of the United States. On the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, it is clear that our country is not a leading country when it comes to environmental responsibility, and that the duopoly has failed to bring about the stewardship needed to change the course. Thankfully, the American Solidarity Party is here for those of us who are weary of the inability of the major political parties to do enough to address the nation’s poor environmental record. On this Earth Day, let us remember the importance of protecting the environment in both consistent word and deed.
