Provisional Chapter Coordinator

Reports To: State & Candidate Support Director
Location: Fully remote / virtual
Time Commitment: 8–12 hours per week (flexible schedule with regular availability for chapter calls and coordination with the Director)
Term: One-year renewable volunteer commitment

Position Summary

The Provisional Chapter Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for provisional state parties and works closely with the State & Candidate Support Director to provide effective oversight and support, and works to build up the state party infrastructure toward increased independence and autonomy.

Provisional chapters operate under full national party control, with chapter leadership appointed directly by the National Committee. This role ensures that appointed leaders receive clear direction, consistent resources, accountability, and hands-on assistance so that every provisional chapter builds a strong, compliant, and high-performing organization aligned with national priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Liaison & Communication

  • Serve as the main day-to-day contact for appointed leaders of all provisional state chapters.

  • Facilitate regular check-ins, strategy calls, and updates between chapter leaders and the State & Candidate Support Director.

  • Clearly communicate national directives, priorities, deadlines, and policy changes to provisional chapters.

  • Relay chapter progress, challenges, and local insights back to the Director and National Committee.

Oversight & Performance Management

  • Assist the State & Candidate Support Director in monitoring chapter compliance with national bylaws, policies, and performance standards.

  • Track key metrics such as membership growth, fundraising, ballot access progress, candidate recruitment, and event activity.

  • Prepare regular status reports and recommendations for the Director on each provisional chapter’s health and trajectory.

  • Identify underperforming chapters early and help develop corrective action plans in coordination with the Director.

Leadership Support & Onboarding

  • Lead onboarding and training for newly appointed chapter chairs and officers.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, templates, toolkits, and best-practice guidance to help appointed leaders succeed.

  • Support leadership transitions, re-appointments, and performance reviews as directed by the National Committee.

  • Assist state leaders in building up their state party human capital such that they can apply and maintain autonomous chapter status.

Resource Coordination & Chapter Development

  • Coordinate the allocation of national resources, staff time, training programs, and campaign materials to provisional chapters.

  • Help chapters access technical assistance, voter file tools, fundraising platforms, and compliance support.

  • Assist with planning and execution of state-level initiatives that advance national goals (ballot access drives, candidate recruitment, membership campaigns, etc.).

Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure all provisional chapters meet reporting deadlines and adhere to national financial, legal, and operational requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records of chapter leadership, performance data, and compliance status.

  • Support the Director in enforcing accountability measures when chapters fall short of expectations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong commitment to the party’s platform and principles.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.

  • Experience managing volunteers, projects, or teams (political, nonprofit, or corporate).

  • Ability to work diplomatically yet firmly with appointed leaders while maintaining accountability.

  • Comfortable with data tracking, reporting, and virtual collaboration tools.

  • Reliable and responsive; able to meet deadlines and maintain regular communication.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in state or local party building, candidate support, or political operations.

  • Familiarity with ballot access processes, fundraising compliance, CRM or volunteer management systems.

  • Experience working under a director or in a support/oversight role.

  • Knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order or basic parliamentary procedure.
