Webmaster

Reports To: Communications Director
Location: Fully remote / virtual
Time Commitment: 4–10 hours per week (flexible schedule with availability for urgent site issues)
Term: One-year renewable volunteer commitment

Position Summary

The Webmaster is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and technical support of the American Solidarity Party’s official website.

This role ensures the site remains secure, up-to-date, fast, accessible, and user-friendly. The Webmaster serves as the primary technical contact for website content, structure, and functionality, working closely with the communications team to publish accurate information and support the party’s digital presence.

Key Responsibilities

Website Maintenance & Updates

  • Keep the party website current by publishing and updating pages, posts, events, candidate information, and other content as directed.

  • Manage the SquareSpace content management system (CMS), including page layouts, navigation, menus, and media libraries.

  • Ensure all content is properly formatted, linked, and consistent with party branding and messaging.

Technical Oversight

  • Monitor site performance, uptime, and loading speeds; identify and resolve technical issues.

  • Manage plugins, themes, security updates, and backups.

  • Coordinate with hosting providers or technical vendors when needed for domain, SSL, or server-related matters.

  • Implement basic SEO best practices (meta titles, descriptions, image alt text, clean URLs).

Accessibility & User Experience

  • Ensure the website meets accessibility standards (WCAG guidelines) and remains mobile-responsive.

  • Improve navigation, clarity, and overall user experience based on feedback and analytics.

  • Maintain a clean, professional, and on-brand design across all pages.

Collaboration & Content Support

  • Work closely with the Blog Coordinator, Newsletter & Email Coordinator, and other team members to publish content efficiently.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to volunteers who need to post or update website content.

  • Help create or maintain templates for recurring content types (events, candidate pages, press releases, etc.).

Security, Privacy & Compliance

  • Maintain website security best practices and promptly address vulnerabilities.

  • Ensure forms, data collection, and user interactions comply with privacy requirements.

  • Keep records of major site changes and technical documentation.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide regular updates to the Communications Director on site status, traffic trends, technical issues, and recommended improvements.

  • Propose enhancements that support party goals (membership growth, candidate visibility, event promotion, etc.).

Qualifications

Require

  • Solid experience managing websites using a modern CMS (SquareSpace and Wordpress strongly preferred).

  • Comfortable with basic HTML/CSS and media management.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot common website issues independently.

  • Reliable internet access and ability to respond to urgent site problems.

  • Commitment to the American Solidarity Party’s mission and values.

Preferred

  • Prior experience as a webmaster or website administrator for a political party, nonprofit, or advocacy organization.

  • Familiarity with website security practices, backups, and performance optimization.

  • Experience with SEO fundamentals, Google Analytics, and accessibility standards.

  • Basic knowledge of hosting environments, domains, and SSL certificates.

  • Experience training non-technical volunteers on website use.
